It is white or slightly yellow flaky crystal, soluble in water and alcohol. It is a cationic surface active broad-spectrum bactericide, and its antibacterial spectrum and antibacterial activity are similar to those of benzalkonium bromide. Its action is enhanced in alkaline conditions; its efficacy is reduced in the presence of soaps, synthetic detergents, acidic organic substances, pus and blood.
